DANIEL CEMENTS HIS POSITION AS WORLDSKILLS CHAMPION

Year 12 student, Daniel Jonasson, was recently awarded the gold medal at the WorldSkills National Championships in the VETis Bricklaying category.

The WorldSkills National Championships is Australia’s biggest vocational education and excellence competition. Over three days, selected regional competitors are flown from around the country to showcase their skills on the national stage and compete against their peers from around Australia.

Daniel is taking a VET pathway at Hale School, where he combines his General subject course study with completing a Certificate II in Building and Construction at North Metropolitan TAFE, while also taking on one day of work experience a week.

It is through his Certificate II that Daniel was encouraged to compete in the Regional WorldSkills Championships in 2022, where he took home the gold medal. This victory secured his place in the National Championships in Melbourne this month.

Over three intense days, Daniel showcased his exceptional bricklaying finesse and skill. He was awarded the gold medal for his efforts, cementing his position as Australia’s top VETiS Bricklaying talent.

Daniel’s accomplishment highlights the significance of vocational education and its vital role in the Australian education system.
