We know that sending your son off to boarding school is a big decision, both emotionally and financially. Rest assured that we do not take lightly the responsibility of helping to raise your child.
Our caring and experienced boarding staff will work in close partnership with you, through regular contact, to provide the best care and support possible for your son.
Becoming a boarder is, of course, a significant change for your son. The Hale@home online learning programme supports boys through the transition. By joining the weekly online programme in the year before boarding, boys establish connections with other students and Hale staff, building their confidence and familiarity before they arrive.
Typically joining Hale in Year 7, a boarder’s first experience is Brine House, our boarding house for boys in Years 7 and 8. Here, dormitory rooms are shared with other students to help the boys build rapport and peer support structures as they settle into life at Hale.
Once in Year 9, boys move into one of two senior boarding houses (different wings of the same building) continuing to share rooms before having their own room in Years 10 to 12.

Recognising the benefits in this structure, ‘urban boarding’ is becoming increasingly popular at Hale, with local students joining the boarding community to better support their academic studies.
Hailing from interstate and around the world, the diversity of backgrounds and experiences our boarding students bring to Hale provides a depth and richness to our school culture that benefits all students – broadening horizons, creating cultural awareness and preparing students for the global workplace.
