CHAMPIONING CHARLIE AMIDST COVID CHALLENGES

May 30, 2022

Overcoming every challenge COVID-19 threw at them, Hale’s Redfoot Youth Theatre brought the timeless tale of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to life in a sweet nod to childhood dreams and imagination.

The cast of dozens of Hale School boys and girls from various schools ploughed against all odds to pull off an extraordinary, joyful show. The challenges they faced during COVID-19 restrictions included rehearsals being put on hold, moved outside to meet physical distancing requirements, rehearsing in smaller groups, wearing masks… and so on. But they continued on undaunted and with optimism, and formed close friendships that were a testament to their combined commitment.

“The creative yet disciplined process of putting together a musical should not be underestimated. It is the collaborative effort of over 100 individuals bringing their best to create something greater. Our young cast, musicians and crew have embraced the challenges along with the thrills,” said Musical Director, Su-Lyn Chong.

The production ran for three sold-out nights at the John Inverarity Music and Drama Centre in May.
