Postgraduate Trainee Teacher: Hale School/University of Sunderland

Full-time position commencing January 2026

Hale School is Western Australia’s oldest independent boys’ school. Located in the suburb of Wembley Downs, the current campus is situated on a magnificent 48-hectare site, approximately 13 kilometres to the north-west of Perth and two kilometres from the coast.

Hale School is seeking applications from enthusiastic and degree qualified professionals for the position of Postgraduate Trainee Teacher. The Hale School and University of Sunderland Trainee Teacher Program marks a pioneering partnership – the first of its kind in Western Australia. Trainee Teachers will benefit from an extensive and immersive whole year teacher training placement at one of Australia’s leading schools under the guidance of a dedicated mentor, while simultaneously engaging in distance learning coursework through the University of Sunderland to gain the internationally and Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia recognised PGCE iQTS qualification (Postgraduate Certificate in Education – International Qualified Teacher Status).

The Postgraduate Trainee Teacher Program is ideally suited to experienced, university qualified professionals seeking to transition to a rewarding career in teaching. While the Trainee Teacher position is not formally remunerated, opportunities exist for paid casual work in co-curricular and other school programs. Course fee subsidies will also be considered for suitable applicants.

The successful applicant will:

• hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
• have a genuine interest in teaching as a profession and vocation.
• have strong academic aptitude and the capacity to develop a broad range of classroom teaching skills.
• have a National Police Check or Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
• have a current Working with Children Check (WWCC).
