Head of Art Department

An ongoing, full-time position commencing Term 1 2027

Hale School is Western Australia’s oldest independent boys’ school.  Located in the suburb of Wembley Downs, the current campus is situated on a magnificent 48-hectare site, approximately 13 kilometres to the north-west of Perth and two kilometres from the coast.

Hale School is seeking applications from dynamic, enthusiastic, experienced and well-qualified teachers to fill this significant leadership position. The Head of Art is a key role in the School, providing effective leadership of the Art Department and with responsibility for establishing the highest standards of Art learning and practice across Years 7 to 12.

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • exemplary teaching of Art, with experience of, or capacity for, teaching Year 12 Visual Arts (ATAR)
  • a willingness to pursue avenues, within and beyond the classroom curriculum, that enhance boys’ engagement in, appreciation for, and capacity to produce art
  • the capacity to lead and motivate others
  • the ability to communicate effectively
  • the ability to relate well to students, staff and parents
  • a strong work ethic
  • knowledge of, and interest in, developments in Art education
  • proven ability to effectively utilise technology in the classroom
  • proven ability to work as a member of a team
  • an understanding of, and empathy for, the learning needs and social, emotional and spiritual development of boys
  • a firm commitment to independent schooling and a willingness to support the School’s values and Anglican traditions.

  • current registration as a teacher with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia, or be eligible for registration
  • a current Working with Children (WWC) check.
