Old Boys’ Day is a treasured occasion on the Hale School calendar and this year’s gathering on Friday 21 March was particularly memorable as we honoured an Old Haleian whose life of service truly exemplifies the Hale School motto of Duty.
The 2025 Bishop Hale Medal was awarded to Ross Wallman (1999–2004), in recognition of his extraordinary commitment to community service and selfless leadership. The award is given to an Old Haleian whose life reflects Hale’s core values through a sustained contribution to community and others. Ross’ impact across multiple causes is nothing short of inspiring.
A familiar voice on Perth radio and a well-regarded master of ceremonies, Ross has used his platform to champion organisations including HeartKids WA, Neuromuscular WA, the RSPCA and Hale School itself. Whether behind a microphone or working quietly behind the scenes, his contributions are consistently guided by generosity, humility and a strong sense of duty.
One of Ross’ most enduring connections with Hale is through the Hale Mates program, which connects Hale students with young people living with neuromuscular conditions, where he volunteers as a mentor. His support of Hale students is hands-on and consistent, so much so that his young son is now a regular visitor to campus, witnessing service in action. Ross has also supported public speaking competitions, fundraising efforts and countless other school initiatives over the years.
As a mentor, ambassador, volunteer and family man, Ross embodies the very essence of the Bishop Hale Medal. The Old Haleians’ Association and the School are proud to recognise his legacy and thank him for continuing to lead by example.
This year, Old Boys’ Day also saw the official renaming of F Block to the Isaachsen Wing, in honour of Dr Eric Isaachsen (1964-68) and his wife, Dr Louise Farrell OAM. Their longstanding generosity and commitment to Hale were acknowledged during the assembly.
With over 250 Old Haleians in attendance, from Havelock Street alumni to our newest graduates, the campus was filled with laughter and shared memories. We look forward to welcoming even more Old Haleians back to campus in the future.
