The annual Fine Art@Hale exhibition is a highlight on the school calendar, and this year is particularly special, with the opening night event on Friday 19 July, marking a homecoming of sorts. After two years in Hale School’s Administration building, the exhibition returns to the Memorial Hall following the building’s significant renovation and extension. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to appreciate the original artworks in a striking building that is a work of art in its own right.
“Memorial Hall is where Fine Art@Hale had its humble beginnings 32 years ago and we are so happy to be returning to such a beautiful space. It is always moving to see such varied and impressive artworks exhibited in a place that is so significant to our community,” says Fine Art@Hale Committee Chair, Andrine Terry.
The exhibition will showcase the work of close to 100 Western Australian artists, one of whom is Hale’s very own Amber Levien, Assistant Head of Tregonning House and Visual Art teacher. Amber, an abstract painter, grew up in Exmouth and was deeply influenced by the vibrant colours and natural beauty of the northwest. These early experiences profoundly shaped her artistic vision and style.
Amber’s work is a celebration of colour and light. Her preferred medium, acrylic on canvas, allows her to vividly capture the rich, dynamic colours that inspire her. “I am obsessed with colour and the connections human beings have with it – memory, emotion, mood,” she says. “My work focuses on the gradient of colour and line, capturing light through colour and exploring the vibration and transition of colour.”
Amber is showcasing three pieces in the exhibition, all inspired by her childhood in Exmouth and the northwest.
