Year 9 experience

Year 9 can be a challenging year for boys. Our aim at Hale School is to set our students up for not just a great year, but an inspiring introduction to the Senior School and their final years of secondary education.

Hale’s Year 9 programme focuses on students’ character development through specially curated discussions, activities and events. The purpose of the programme is to provide students with engaging learning experiences that help them to understand themselves, connect with others and build character. Some of the topics explored include self-awareness, integrity, empathy, collaboration, creativity, embracing challenge, respect, resilience and sportsmanship.

A highlight of the year is the Exmouth camp, which includes outdoor and expedition activities, distance learning with environmental agencies and local authorities, and online learning with teachers at the Hale School campus.

Another special event in Year 9 is ArtsFest – a one-and-a-half day creative and practical immersion in the arts. Students are inspired in a diverse range of creative arts through watching performances and engaging with professional artists in the areas of music, drama, visual art, media and dance. They also have the opportunity to produce their own creations to showcase to family and friends.
