DESCRIPTION:In major cities around the world\, Monday nights are renowned as the “off night” when professional theatre musicians\, from Broadway to the West End and even here in Perth\, come together to play in jazz big bands. On Monday 22 June\, Hale Jazz will proudly follow this tradition\, giving our students the unique opportunity to perform in a real jazz club\, located in the basement of His Majesty’s Theatre. Just as importantly\, the evening allows our young musicians to hear one another perform in a professional setting\, learning from their peers while sharing their music with family\, friends\, and the wider community. \nThe night will feature a showcase of senior school ensembles\, including the Saxophone Quartet\, Jazz Guitar Ensemble\, Jazz Blast Off!\, Big Band 1\, Big Band 2\, and our premier ensemble\, the Hale Jazz Orchestra. DESCRIPTION:Building on the incredible support of the inaugural Shave for Ryan in 2023\, we invite Hale students to once again take part in this special event in memory of Ryan Murphy\, a Year 12 student who sadly passed away in early 2023 from Glioblastoma – an aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer. \nThe Hale School community continues to raise funds for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. Ryan shared a strong connection with the Institute through the Perkins Professor’s Academy. Thanks to the generosity of our community\, an honorary place in the Academy has been established in Ryan’s name. \nStudents can register to have their head shaved to a #3 cut for $20. \nAdditional donations in support of this important cause are warmly welcomed and gratefully received. \nWe encourage all boys participating in the shave to raise funds and awareness within their family and friendship groups – sharing why this cause matters and who they are honouring. \nWe are grateful to have professional hairdressers from within the Hale community volunteering their time and expertise for the day. \nREGISTER HERE. \nPlease note: Only students who have pre-registered will be able to participate in the shave.

DESCRIPTION:Garland Festival\, Sunday 2 August\, 10.00am – 3.00pm \nJohn Inverarity Music and Drama Centre\, Hale School \nThe Garland Music Festival is an annual eisteddfod for Hale School music students established by Lady Lyn Garland in 1977. The aim of the festival is to encourage students to perform as an instrumentalist or vocalist in friendly competition with their peers and to watch each other’s performances. \nStudents\, family\, and friends are encouraged to watch and enjoy performances in various sessions throughout the day. A semi-final performance for the Year 7\, Year 8 and 9 divisions will also be held during the day to determine the overall winner for these sections. \nGarland Finals Concert\, Wednesday 5 August\, 7.00pm \nJohn Inverarity Music and Drama Centre\, Auditorium \nFollowing the festival day\, the Garland Finals Concert will be held in the Auditorium and feature the following performers: \n\nTop three performers from Junior School\nWinner of the Junior School ensemble\nWinner of the Year 7 Shield\nWinner of the David Bean Cup\nWinners of each of the senior sections\n\nThe overall Garland Music Prize winner will be announced at the end of the concert. \nFree Event – No bookings required.

This event will also share the writing of our Year 4 students. \nThroughout that week\, our Junior School students will be immersed in contemporary children’s books by The Sound of Picture Books\, followed by workshops with the authors\, illustrators and publishers behind these stories. This church service features readings\, interspersed with Christmas pieces performed by Hale and St Mary’s Cantate\, along with congregational carols for everyone to join us in singing. \nAll are welcome – Free Entry – No Bookings or Tickets required. \nTuesday 1 December\n7.30pm at St George’s Cathedral (38 St George’s Terrace\, Perth)\nGuests should arrive between 7.10pm and 7.25pm to find a seat in the cathedral. \nPARKING: There is parking in the CCP Council House carpark across the road from the cathedral\, as well as in Wilson Carpark on the corner of Pier and Hay Street (CPP Information: https://www.cityofperthparking.com.au/)
