SUMMARY:2025 Garland Festival
DESCRIPTION:Garland Festival\, Sunday 3 August\, 10.00am – 4.00pm \nJohn Inverarity Music and Drama Centre\, Auditorium \nThe Garland Music Festival is an annual eisteddfod for Hale music students established by Lady Lyn Garland in 1977. The aim of the festival is to encourage students to perform as an instrumentalist or vocalist in friendly competition with their peers and to watch each other’s performances. \nStudents\, family\, and friends are encouraged to watch and enjoy performances in various sessions throughout the day. A semi-final performance for the Year 7\, Year 8 and 9 divisions will also be held during the day to determine the overall winner for these sections. \nSee the 2025 Festival TIMETABLE HERE and the Festival PROGRAM HERE (These files will be updated as changes are made) \nJoin us at the Garland Concert on Wednesday 6 August when the finalists perform and the overall Garland Prize winner is announced.

DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr Suzy Killmister\nDr Killmister is an Associate Professor and the Head of Philosophy at Monash University. \n\nWhile dehumanisation is one of the worst things that can be done to a person\, examples of it are not hard to find\, even here in Australia. Dehumanisation can come in many different forms\, and this makes it difficult to identify a root cause or to develop tools to prevent it. During this public lecture\, Dr Killmister will explore what it means to say that someone has been “dehumanised”\, and the political implications of how this question is answered. \n\n\n\nThursday 7 August\, 7.30pm – 8.15pm\, followed by a Q&A\nCygnet Theatre\, Hale School \nFREE event (registration required)\, please RSVP here \nRefreshments will be served after the lecture.
