Western Australia’s oldest school for boys, Hale School, formally welcomed its new Headmaster, Mr Dean Dell’Oro, at a commissioning ceremony on 12 May conducted by the Administrator of the Anglican Diocese of Perth, The Right Reverend Bishop Kate Wilmot.
Hale School, which was founded in 1858 by the first Anglican Bishop of Perth, conducted a traditional Anglican ceremony that was witnessed by the School’s 1500 students, staff and invited guests in the Senior School quad.
Mr Dell’Oro came to Western Australia from Victoria, where he was Head of Corio Campus at Geelong Grammar School. He started his appointment at Hale School in Term 2.
Mr Dell’Oro brings to Hale a firm belief that exceptional education is provided by the quality of the relationships that exist between students, parents and staff, which provides students with every opportunity to thrive and enjoy a purposeful education.
In his Commissioning speech, Mr Dell’Oro acknowledged the honour bestowed on him as the next steward of this great school.
“To be the next Headmaster of Hale School is a privilege. That Hale is an Anglican School, that it is a school for boys, that is both boarding and day, that it expects high standards, that it cares about the life of the ‘boy’: these are reasons for why I wanted to be its next Headmaster. That this is a strong community is the most important reason that I wanted to become Headmaster. It is only in a community where the necessary skills for a flourishing life can be encouraged; throughout our children’s days, months and years of schooling.”
Chairman of the Hale School Board of Governors, Mr John Birman, said he is confident and enthusiastic about the future direction in which Mr Dell’Oro will take Hale School, enabling students to meet future challenges.
“Since 1858, Hale School has undergone and witnessed great change and it will continue to do so,” Mr Birman said. “The School has at its core a defining commitment to producing outstanding young citizens and we are excited about Hale’s future under its next Headmaster. We congratulate Mr Dell’Oro on his appointment to Hale School and welcome him and his family.
