COVID-19: Major school events cancelled

Hale School has cancelled all major events for the rest of the term in response to concerns about the spread of Coronavirus. Old Boys’ Day, scheduled for this Friday 20 March, has been postponed, along with the School Ball, Assemblies, Year 6 camp and My Hall production.

The situation is being carefully monitored to assess the feasibility of other smaller gatherings and events. As of today, PSA sport competitions will still be held this week, with Head of the River planned to go ahead this weekend but split over two days and with no spectators. Thousands of visitors were expected at the regatta – well over the 500-person maximum allowed under new Government regulations to prevent the spread of the virus.

Hale School is well underway in its planning for how to continue teaching and learning in the event of a temporary school closure. All students would continue to receive instruction and support from teachers online, and to meet in virtual classrooms for interaction and feedback.

“We are prepared to keep the school running, to keep parents and students informed, and to keep our community connected,” said Headmaster, Dean Dell’Oro. “It may not quite be business as usual, but the important business of educating our boys will continue.”
