Standard entry levels to the School for day boys are currently Years 1, 3, 5 and 7. Offers of places are made two years in advance for Years 1, 3 and 7 and one year in advance for Year 5. From 2016 some offers for Year 1, 3 boarding students and Year 7 wth a family connection will be made three years in advance. The entry level for boarders is Year 7 and offers of places for these boys are made two years in advance. Vacancies may occur from time to time at other levels in the School, including limited places in the Senior School at Years 8, 9, 10 and 11. Entry at these levels is dependent on availability of places, the sighting of previous school reports and an interview with the Headmaster.
Entry into Years 1 and 3 is determined by the number of days from the date of birth to the date of registration. Priority is given to siblings of current Hale students.
Entry into Year 5 is determined by an academic entrance examination which is written early in Year 4. Places are offered in order of merit based on the results of the examination. The sighting of recent school reports and NAPLAN results are requested and can form a component of this academic assessment.
Year 7 entry for boys who are siblings of current students, sons or grandsons of Old Boys, or boarders is granted provided the boy has been registered three years prior to the date of entry and that the payment of the Endowment Fee is made when requested (three years prior to entry). Entry for boarders is also subject to the availability of beds at the registered year level. The preferred entry into boarding is Year 7 at the beginning of Middle School, however other entry years will be considered on request. Year 7 entry for boys without the above affiliation is determined by an academic entrance examination which is held in Term 1 of Year 5.
You are welcome to visit us to see what makes Hale special. Group tours commence at 9.30am every Thursday (term time) and generally take approximately one and a half hours (bookings are essential). Children are very welcome to join us however, the campus is extensive and families with babies or toddlers are encouraged to bring a pram. If you are unable to join us for a scheduled tour we will happily arrange a personalised tour. These are available at either 9.00am or 9.30am Monday to Friday during term time. Visitors from out of town can often be accommodated at other times, even with short notice, so we encourage you to contact us to discuss this further.
