Hale Junior School is a community of approximately 300 boys, their parents and more than 30 members of staff. The principal entry levels are at Years 1, 5 and 7, though a few boys are able to begin at other levels. A superb teaching team works together to provide a high quality educational experience for the boys of the Junior School.
Situated in the north-western corner of the Hale campus, the Junior School has two blocks of classrooms, together with a spacious Library/Resource Centre, Art Centre and a Year 7 Centre. Basketball and tennis courts, cricket nets and playground equipment form part of the complex. The adjacent playing fields and other facilities, including the John Inverarity Music and Drama Centre, swimming pool and gymnasium, complete a superb environment in which to learn and play.
Hale Junior School provides a well-rounded education in which emphasis is placed on achieving high academic standards within a happy and stimulating environment. Careful attention is given to the balanced integration of academic, physical, emotional and social development. Personal growth is encouraged through the development of a positive self-concept, self-discipline, appropriate manners and achieving satisfying interpersonal relationships. The spiritual development of each boy is supported by our Religious and Values programme as well as our weekly Chapel service.
Each class has a qualified and enthusiastic staff member in charge, supported by specialist teachers in Art, Spanish, Library, Drama, Music and Physical Education. Two Learning Support Teachers provide enrichment programmes for individual boys as required and a specialist teacher coordinates a curriculum for gifted and talented boys.
All boys in Year 7 have their own tablet computers and the School provides an extensive range of notebook and personal computers for boys in Years 1 to 6. Student-owned notebook computers were introduced into Year 7 in 2003. This initiative supports the School's on-going development of innovative and exciting curricula within a contemporary teaching and learning environment.
As well as participating in the Junior School's sporting programme, all boys are involved in weekly music and drama classes. Boys may join the Junior Band, String and Symphony Orchestras along with various choirs.
