a double bill of student directed productions Dracula Adapted and Directed by George Ashforth
A deep and thorough exploration of 17th century sexuality, Bram Stoker's Dracula is a sensual mix of gothic love and dark, forbidden exploits in turn-of-the-century Protestant England. A combination of solid movement with a sombre and sexy soundtrack, this play demonstrates the amazing ability of stories to change and morph over centuries into a new style, until you end up with a cape-wearing menace, hated and feared the world over. Attempting to strip away the stereotype, this piece will challenge audiences and performers alike.

Redfoot members direct!
One of our theatre initiatives is to encourage the directorial skills of our members. Each year we are offering productions which are led by our students. They will have the opportunity to work within the structure of redfoot in creating their own versions of existing texts. Some will have the desire to devise their own work - or to respond to the challenge of developing a piece based on another media. This exciting opportunity allows students to challenge their skills of organisation and creativity - it also offers cast members another production experience. 2009_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Redfoot has launched spectacularly into 2009 with the wonderfully successful, edgy production of "Hamlet: All Shook Up" in the Quadrangle at Hale, with rehearsals well underway for Visiting Director Andy Holborne's production "The Life and Death of Almost Everyone". Simultaneously, our workshop groups have been set the task of adapting Matt Ottley's award winning picture book "Requiem for a Beast" for the stage, a two term project which will culminate in the presentation of a large scale ensemble production, using multimedia and puppetry to vividly bring Ottley's text to the stage.
Other productions to look forward to this year include; the UK Tour production of Old T Tales, Peter Pan, the return of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and this year's Pantomime, Snow White. Also coming to redfoot this semester is an exciting program of visiting productions from Curtin University, completeing a sensational season of theatre experiences not to be missed! |
