Magic’ was the theme of this year’s Junior School Drama Masterclass held last week. A
rmed with personal stories, favourite pieces of clothing and music, significant photos and bits and pieces of scripts, the Year Seven students’ workshopped with Ms Jarel using their favourite treasures as inspiration. Their aim was to create a little bit of magic for the stage.
On Thursday evening, the boys performed a dramatic collage which had grown out of the four days of sharing, creating and interpreting the stories and scripts. It included moments from famous plays, moments from the boys’ lives and finally a moment from children’s literature - a dramatised performance of Tohby Riddle’s, ‘Irving the Magician’ – the story of a young boy’s search for magic. All agreed the talented participants Reece Clarke, Jackson Fullarton, Michael Goulios, Alistair Mackenzie, Conor Mackenzie, Sam Mathews, Michael Ninkov, Alexander Popov, Nicholas Sanderson, George Stribling, Marcus Tsaknis, Aden Wilkins, Cameron Wilson and Richard Zhang were successful in weaving their inspired magic right here at Hale School.
All art is like magic.
You create something out of nothing.
You create a moment, and capture it for all time,
to be seen over and over,
heard again and again,
felt a million times.
It’s magic!
