Some 87,000 secondary school geography students from around Australia participated in the 2009 National Geographic Channel Australian Geography Competition. For the fourth consecutive year Hale School won the Western Australian school section of the competition.
The results are determined by comparing the results of the best five students under 16 years of age and the best five students 16 years and over, with those of other participating schools. Year 12 students Jordan Aitken, Patrick Burke, Nathan Crosby, Brent Evans and Harry Williams showed up in the list of the highest-scoring WA students.
Mr Ric Burns, Managing Director of National Geographic Channel said he’s always inspired by the geographical knowledge and skills students around Australia display through the competition. “Geography covers the big issues affecting the quality of our lives and landscapes and the students who enter this competition have a real awareness of them and are to be congratulated,” Burns said.
“On behalf of National Geographic Channel I’d also like to thank geography teachers around Australia who inspire the students and guide them towards geographical understanding,” Burns added.
